At this time of the day last week, I would have just got back from admitting my dad into the hospital, hoping that he will not feel so much pain on his diaphragm and would be able to take a good rest after he had been enduring the pain for 5 long days!!
Monday, 4th Dec, I was getting ready to bed, hoping to wake up early the next day for my morning gym workout and 3D Avatar show after that. CK and I had been wanting to watch the movie since December, but, we couldn't get any nice seating, so, we postponed until January. We purchased the tickets online and were eager to finally able to watch the show.
As I was packing my gym bags, I received a call from dad. It was almost midnight. He told me that he was in great pain at his abdomen and he couldn't endure the pain any longer! I was shocked when I heard him. His voice was shaky and I could really feel that he was in enourmous pain. He was still at his working place, so, I asked whether he could find anyone that could quickly bring him to the hospital, but he told me that everyone was occupied with work and that, he could drove back home and meet me there. I told him to stay put and I would rush over to fetch him. But, he insisted on going back home first. To avoid arguing and prolonging the time, I agreed and quickly made a move. I was worried on my way home and praying hard that he would arrived safely. I kept a look out at the streets, not hoping to see his car stranded somewhere along the way.
Upon reaching home, we quickly drove into the emergency at the hospital. The doctor on standby checked on him and gave him some gastric medication since, the clinic that he went for earlier treatment has ruled out gallstone after they did an ultrasound scan on him that morning. If his condition improved after 15mins of the jab, he could go home and returned in the morning for more checkups to make sure that it was really a gastric problem. Otherwise, he would need to be given a higher dosage and had to be admitted. We waited for about half an hour and dad said that he felt the pain subsided, but not totally. The doctor asked whether he was happy with the result of the medication, if he was, then, he could go back. My dad, fearing that he could put a hole in my pocket, told all of us that he felt better and would want to go home. So, home we went, this time, my house.
Before I went to bed, I told him to call me if he felt any discomfort. He nodded. That time, I heaved a sigh and thought everything will be alright now. I woke up early in the morning around 7.30am (which I don't normally do) and found my dad curling himself outside at our living room. I quickly grabbed a blanket and covered him, thinking that he must be feeling very cold and was wondering why he slept outside?! It was only later that I found out, he was in pain again and couldn't sleep in the room, so, he came out.
We went into the hospital as an outpatient this time, but there was a long queue. Luckily, the doctor was kind enough to see my dad first since, I told the nurse that my dad has been in severe pain since last night and asked them to make an exception. After pleading for 2 times, they finally agreed. From the examination, we found out that he had gallstones and the gallbladder had infections causing it to swell and pressured his diaphragm where he felt the pain. He had to be admitted immediately and a surgeon would be called upon to discuss with us on the removal of the gallbladder. Although, dad and I were calmed when we told mom about it, but deep inside, I was worried about dad knowing that there would be risk doing surgery with his heart condition. And I also knew that, dad was feeling scared too!
It was a long day at the hospital with the waiting and the examinations. Dad was still in pain, it was around 7.30pm when he finally got into his ward and got his first pain killer jab around 8pm. He felt a little better after we left.
Hospital Day Log 1 ended.
