Last week, we had a video session with my Wednesday class students at iFitness Centre for completing their first routine in the Beginner-Beginner level. There are two reasons for the video. Firstly, it is for them to keep a record of the routine they have learned, so that, they may refer to it in the future. Secondly, it is for them to review and take a look at their dance in hope that, they would be able to evaluate and correct themselves. I know that some students may feel discourage after looking at the way they dance. But, I'm hoping that they would think positively that, by knowing their mistakes, they would be more determined to get it right the next time!
One of my students called me after she looked through the video numerous times and was feeling pressured that she couldn't do all the movements and was asking why she danced so badly. I told her to be patient and that this is only the first time she is dancing and seeing herself dance, she shouldn't put too much pressure onto herself. And yes, she still have lots of practice to do and in time, she will be able to smile and look back at this video and say.. "oh my God! How much I've improved!".
I know that many people quit belly dancing after a few tries because, they find that it is too difficult and that they couldn't do the movements properly and beautifully. I wouldn't say that it is easy, but to me, it is much easier than ballet or jazz that really need lot of flexibility and strength. Believe me, if you put your heart to it, you will reap the results! How long will it take? That depends on how determined and patience you are. Although, I've been dancing for 4 years, I am still learning and practicing! So.. DON'T GIVE UP!!

I cringe when I look at my video but I felt that I have been learning forever!!!
Hi Ally,
I've looked at your video. You're good, so be confident of yourself. Of course, we might not be as good as those professional dancers, but I find we will soon reach there.. give yourself and your body time..
