Last Sunday, I got a chance to learn double veils from Samra Lara Kendricks from Virgnia, USA. I woke up early in the morning and drove down to Ipoh with CK. CK wasn't feeling very well that day, but because, of me, he persevered and accompanied me down. I felt so touched and wished that I could do the same for him, somewhere in the future. I did think about cancelling the trip, but then, I have to deliver the silk veils that I've helped Wendy (the organizer) to purchase and they will need them for the workshops, so, I had no choice but to go.
The Workshop

Samra gave us some tips on what to do and not to do with our veils, how to hold the two veils and handle them. Then, she went on teaching us the different techniques that come with double veils. She taught us how to go in and out of the veils and also how to spin and turn with the veils.
We did a lot of fast turnings because, we want the veil to stay up float and that's when I felt so sick and dizzy that I had to stop and rest. I felt so paled and were in the verge of throwing up. Sigh, it's no fun being sick in a workshop.
. At one point, I was thinking of quitting but, I persevered like CK and went through with it. Luckily, my brain was still able to absorb some knowledge that were shared in the workshop. But I'm going to put my veils to rest for now, because, I am still having the fear of turning and getting sick again. In fact, at the moment of writing this, I still feel a little dizzy. Hahaha.. psychological?? Maybe.
Samra Tips
These are some of the tips that I can still remember in my dizziness. Hahaha..
Dos
- double hem the top of your veils, so that, you know where they are by touching them
- put a button or something to mark the middle of the veils for the same reason
- extend your arms when handling the veils
- catch air with the veils
- may use lighter veils when you're indoor
- for lighter veils like silk, target lower when flipping the veils up to your shoulder to avoid them landing on your face
Donts
- Don't freak out when your veils landed on your face, just do it like it is meant to be there
- Avoid doing double veils outdoor, single veils is possible but with heavier material
- Don't keep spinning in one direction, if dizziness is an issue. Rotate in different directions to counter-effect the dizziness
