It was my second time traveling to Singapore to attend workshops since I've started belly dancing. The first time was dated back in 2007 when I attended Prof. Hassan's, Nuriyya's and Jenna's workshops at the 3rd Ahlamy Belly Dance Festival with Shee Loo and Conny. This year I was back in Singapore again to attend Dina's workshops. And yes! That was the famous Dina from Egypt. Hadia had advised me to learn from Dina if I get the chance and without any hesitation, I grabbed it.
The workshops were pretty tough for me, as there wasn't much breakdowns and explanation on the movements, that I am used to. It was more of watch and learn kind of class. Dina, however, did show us her movements repeatedly and simplify them for us when we couldn't get it. But still, it was pretty difficult to follow. There was lots of turning on the ball of the foot and without any shoes it sure hurt a little. Luckily, they sold some belly shoes in the workshops and they definitely saved my day. Hahaha.. I bought 3 in total, a red, blue and black. I wanted a gold and silver but there weren't any of my size available.
Dina has a pleasant character, however, I do wish that she doesn't have to leave in the middle of the workshops to get her puff of smoke. The occasional breaks left us with lesser time to work on the choreography and we couldn't even finish the song and drill the movements.
Overall, I did learn some new moves from her and can't wait to put them into my choreographies. And yes! I'm glad that I've finally get to learn and meet her in person! Yippie!
