Sahara, a mentor to our energetic and one of Malaysia's current local favourite, Karen Madrid is coming to Malaysia to conduct a 2 days workshops in Kuala Lumpur for the first time. Time to get your hip scarves ready in November for this not to miss event.
About Sahara
Sahara of Lebanese origin has been a professional dancer since the year 2000. With a career that has spanned over 8 years her career has taken her to Mexico, New Zealand, Australia and most recently Malaysia.
An aspect of Sahara is her ability to interpret and improvisational skills. Sahara has been featured on many TV programs through Australia and Mexico and has gained her a reputation for being one of Sydney’s most popular dancers and teacher. Sahara has a unique and energetic style which would leave audiences in awe.
Sahara's father Jamil was one of the most prominent musicians in the Arabic scene in Australia. Growing up with her father Sahara has a very keen ear and can interpret any Arabic rhythm or music brought to her especially with live musicians. One of Sahara's trademarks is her challenging and wow techniques which would enthrall any audience. Sahara is an advocate of Middle Eastern dance and is always teaching respect for the culture in which the dance represents.
The Workshops
Workshop 1
Sahara Technique and Lebanese Combinations (RM100)
Saturday 14 Nov, 2009 - 11.00am - 1.00pm
Sahara will teach you energetic and enthralling combinations. These combinations will include lots of the Lebanese attitude, which is what makes the Lebanese style different from other styles of oriental dance. Egyptian and Turkish technique will also make an appearance. The aim of this workshop is to bring together combinations with the well known and sought after Lebanese flare. Bring pen, paper and water.
Workshop 2
Sahara Lebanese choreography (RM150)
Saturday 14 Nov, 2009 - 2.00pm - 5.00pm
This is a choreography put together using both Egyptian and Lebanese techniques. In this choreography you will learn challenging steps and combinations whilst also learning to interpret the melody and rhythms. The music used in this workshop will be an instrumental Lebanese piece. This will be an energetic choreography. Please bring water, pen and paper.
Workshop 3
Sahara raks asaya and dabke (RM100)
Sunday 15 Nov, 2009 - 12.00pm - 2.00pm
This is a fun filled workshop incorporating the use of the asaya (stick) and Lebanese dabke which is the national dance of Lebanon. The stick combinations can also be used in saidi. Dabke and Saidi both carry the similar feelings. In this workshop you will learn the difference between the Egyptian style and Lebanese style of saidi.
Workshop 4
Sahara style drum solo (RM150)
Sunday 15 Nov, 2009 - 4.00pm - 7.00pm
If you do the Sahara choreographies then some of the technique will be familiar to you. This will be a very energetic choreography using some more challenging techniques developed by Sahara and also some Lebanese interpretations. In this workshop you will learn different stage tricks and ways to wow your audience. You will also learn how to achieve clarity in your techniques used.

Certification

Private Session
Private lessons with Sahara can be arranged on request and tailored to suit any aspect of Middle Eastern Dance at the rate of RM200 an hour for 1-1 basis.
